The challenge

The studio sold through a physical shop and Instagram messages. Orders were tracked in a notebook, and shipping quotes were calculated by hand.

Our approach

We kept the storefront deliberately small: a clear catalogue, honest photography, and automated shipping rates. Nothing the owner could not manage alone.

  1. Scoping down

The studio arrived asking for a marketplace. What it needed was a catalogue it could keep current between kiln firings — so the first piece of work was arguing the scope smaller, not larger.

  2. Photography as the product

Craft sells on the object. We built the templates around large, uncropped photography and wrote the shooting guide the owner still uses, rather than designing a layout the studio could never fill well.

  3. The notebook, retired

Orders, stock, and shipping rates moved into one flow with automated quotes. The hand-calculated shipping estimate — the single largest source of errors — disappeared entirely.

I can add a new piece between firings. Nobody has to call me to ask what it costs to ship.

The outcome

Online orders became a third of monthly revenue within two quarters, handled without additional staff.
